Perfect Peace.
"You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you."
Isaiah 26:3
Not sort of peace, not peace here and there, not pretty good peace…PERFECT peace.
In the original Hebrew translation of this verse it actually says peace twice. It doesn’t say perfect peace. It says peace peace in the original translation. To remind us HOW MUCH PEACE IT TRULY IS, how wonderful it is, how certain it is. Who will He give perfect peace to? Who will he certainly give PEACE PEACE to? Those whose mind is stayed on Him. The CSB version says “the mind that is dependent on” Him. I love in these notes I found from a Chuck Smith sermon, he said:
“The perfect peace is God's part.
Keeping my mind stayed on Him is my part.
If I do my part, I can be sure God will do His.”
This verse calls us to action. This verse calls us to pursue Him. Not to be a passive bystander that sits on the sidelines, but to actively, daily be fixing our eyes on God and His Word. And the byproduct He promises, from this pursuit of the only thing on earth worth pursuing with your whole life, is PERFECT PEACE. The byproduct of placing our trust and faith entirely in Jesus is PERFECT PEACE.
Why are we able to experience this deep perfect peace while on this side of heaven? Why are we able to experience this deep perfect peace in the midst of utter chaos some days (most days), suffering, and uncertainty about tomorrow? Because Christ died for your sins, he died the death you deserved, and was raised to life 3 days later conquering sin and death. And if you have placed your faith in Jesus you have been reconciled to God. You are no longer God’s enemy, as you were before. You now are able to have peace with God. Ultimately though, we experience this deep peace because we know this is not our home, and we have a deep peace as we look forward to the eternal, never-ending, true perfect peace, or PEACE PEACE, that we will live in with Jesus for eternity.
Friend, can I encourage you to place your faith entirely in Jesus today? I promise you there is nothing that compares to keeping your eyes fixed on him and receiving his perfect peace. Nothing else will satisfy you, except Jesus. Of that, I am certain. 🖤
